Rheumatoid Arthritis and Medical Cannabis – A new beginning

There are moments in life when a single decision becomes a turning point. For me, it all began six years ago, at a time when the pain and fatigue of rheumatoid arthritis had taken over my daily life. I still remember that day at a health expo – exhausted and close to resignation – when I stopped in front of a booth that talked about hemp and wellness. It wasn’t hope that led me there, but curiosity. And yet, that one moment changed everything.

Until then, I had been living with constant pain, restricted mobility, and growing frustration. Conventional medication only provided partial relief and brought along a range of unpleasant side effects: weight gain, insomnia, and mood swings. It felt like every remedy created a new problem. And then, almost by chance, I discovered another path.

Incorporating medical cannabis into my routine marked the beginning of a new chapter – one that was more conscious, gentler, and more attuned to my body. Gradually, I felt energy returning. The pain became more manageable, sleep more restful, and my mind more at ease. Most importantly, I was able to significantly reduce my reliance on conventional medication – a great relief both physically and emotionally.

Of course, this shift didn’t happen overnight. I was fortunate to be guided by experienced and open-minded medical professionals who supported me throughout this journey. It took nearly a year to find the right balance of dosage, cannabinoid types, and methods of application, tailored to my individual needs, not a standard protocol. Today, my treatment includes Cannabis Flos (THC 17–26%, CBD 1%) and a 10% CBD oil, used as needed.

One key aspect that helped me feel more secure in my treatment was understanding the interplay between THC and CBD. THC primarily binds to CB1 receptors in the brain, creating psychoactive effects. CBD, which has a low affinity for these receptors, can act as a counterbalance, reducing unwanted psychoactivity and helping me tolerate the treatment better.

Over time, I’ve come to see that medical cannabis is not a one-size-fits-all solution, but a highly personalized therapy that calls for sensitivity, expertise, and a deep sense of responsibility. That’s why I now feel a strong calling to share accurate information, support others, and speak from experience.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of attending many gatherings, meeting inspiring individuals, and witnessing firsthand how this plant can offer not only relief but a renewed sense of hope. I now feel part of a growing, informed, and supportive community – and that fills me with strength.

Today, I regularly use CBD-based products such as the ecopassion® Plus line, which offers a safe and legal alternative despite recent regulatory restrictions. It is my sincere hope that European authorities will soon restore common sense and clarity to the hemp debate, safeguarding the right to therapeutic freedom, dignity, and quality of life for those in need.
